God gave a mandate in scripture for men to be spiritual leaders in their everyday life as well as in this world. Iron Men is a program that was begun over three years ago with the purpose of training and developing young men to be spiritual leaders. Small groups of guys meet together, combining book studies with accountability and ministry, to try and achieve this goal. This is a four year program that begins with a year of study on Spiritual Leadership (101). The second year is spent studying the concept of Spiritual Discipleship (201). Spiritual Relationships (301) is the topic of the third year. We look at all of the different types of relationships we have and how to make God the center of all of them. The final year is a recap of the previous three years with the challenge to go out and get involved in Spiritual Mentorship (401).
Iron Men meets ten Sundays in the fall and ten Sundays in the spring. The middle school groups meet at 4:00 p.m. and the high school groups meet at 5:00. Any guy is eligible for Iron Men 101 which has groups available for MS and HS. There is a requirement that they attend 8 of the 10 meetings per semester in order to move on to the next level. We also have service projects such as feeding the homeless at Memphis Union Mission and serving as the work crew at 6th grade camp. Once in 301 the guys have the opportunity to serve on a team at a gulf coast mission project in the spring. Campouts, cookouts, and hang-outs are also a part of our time together. Once a student has completed one level they are eligible to move on to the next level the following year.
Iron Men is a great opportunity that all young men should look into. It's a great way to go through life and learning together!!
